5-Lateral Thinking in the fitness field : Getting out of the box! (Friday, Feb. 27, 2009)

Nowadays, fitness professionals are bombarded with “new” information and findings pertaining to one area or another of the fitness profession. With the advancement of information technology, a tremendous wealth of information is now available to those who seek it from a multitude of sources. Some books or researches contradict others and we, as fitness professionals are having a harder time to sort through all this information and decide what is and isn’t accurate. In this seminar, we are not going to give you more “do’s and don’ts”, we are not going to tell you what is the absolute best method to use for your clients…Through an adaptation of lateral thinking to our field: FITNESS, we are going to attempt to shed some light on various options, techniques, teaching and training methods that are available to us today. We are also going to help you learn simple steps that will help YOU decide which pieces of information are relevant to your research and which method(s) is best for your clients and why.

Workshop Objectives:

  • What is LATERAL THINKING?

  • How can Lateral Thinking be applied to the fitness field:

  • Exercise effectiveness revisited

  • Safety: Group Fitness versus Personal Training

  • Biomechanics from the inside-out

  • Looking at resistance-training equipment from a different angle

  • A deeper look on training principles

  • Facts & Trivia regarding popular exercises

  • Our knowledge versus what the clients like… A difficult equation!

  • Competition versus cooperation … What are the boundaries?

  • Win-win situations in fitness management
